Canada is the new land of opportunities. Millions of immigrants are currently chasing their dreams living in Canada. As such, the Canadian government also invites aspiring immigrants to work in the country and apply for permanent residency through different immigration programs.
There are many jobs in Canada available in various territories and provinces throughout this country that is filled with a rich diversity of cultures all living together as one. You’ve heard most of the chatter that Canada is one of the best countries for immigrants. It’s also one of the best countries to find greener pastures and to build your ideal dream life in.
As of now, you’re probably thinking of trying to be an aspiring immigrant to this land of opportunities. Yet, you’re probably wondering, “Out of all the various provinces and territories in Canada, which one should I choose?” Well, why not choose Quebec?
The province of Quebec has a long history filled with culture and beauty. In the early days, Quebec was occupied by the French which is why this province is distinctly different from most of Canada which was heavily influenced by the British.
As such, Quebec is known for its French dialect and culture. This creates a unique atmosphere and vibe to Quebec; thus, tourists and fellow Canadians visit the territory for its cuisine, music, and a beautiful symphony of French-Canadian culture mixing together to display what Quebec really is.
Moreover, Quebec is the largest territory in Canada, has the second largest population and second biggest economy in the country. Consequently, many of the new jobs in Canada are being created in Quebec. Montreal, Quebec, is the 2nd most populous city in Canada and was ranked the 21st best city in the world according to a recent global survey. Another international survey named Montreal the 5th best city in the world for expat workers and their families.
Residents of Quebec can attend quality educational institutions, since many of Canada’s top universities are located in Quebec. Free public healthcare is also available in Quebec to Canadian permanent residents and citizens. Quebec is known for its natural beauty and has some of the top ski resorts in Canada.
Given all of the above, what’s not to like about Quebec? So, the question now is: How do you apply for a Canadian PR Visa to live and work in Quebec as a permanent resident of Canada?
The answer is by applying for the Quebec Skilled Worker Program or QSWP.
The QSWP is an immigration program offered by Canada in cooperation with the province of Quebec which uses a point-based system to help determine eligibility. It is designed for interested foreign workers who desire permanent residency in Canada and want to bring their families to live long-term in Quebec.
There are various eligibility requirements for the Quebec Skilled Worker Program that an applicant must pass for the opportunity to enjoy life in this beautiful Canadian province.
First, the applicant must pass the minimum requirement for the QSWP point system. Points earned will be determined by the applicant’s age, work experience, education, French and English language skills, among other factors that will be examined. At least 50 points are required for a single person and a minimum of 59 points must be attained for an applicant who has a spouse or partner.
The good news is that the QSWP only takes two key steps to have the opportunity to live, work, study, and bring your loved ones to establish brand new lives in Quebec and experience its special French-Canadian culture.
The interested applicant must first submit an Expression of Interest (EOI) expressing his/her interest to live and work in Quebec. The EOI is submitted to the QSWP using their online system called “Arrima.” The EOI should include several things, such as the applicant’s:
The Quebec authorities will review the information contained in the EOI, and if the applicant qualifies for the QSWP, their file will be put in the Expression of Interest Bank (EIB) for further consideration. If the applicant is given a Quebec Selection Certificate (Certificat de Sélection du Québec), they can then submit their Canadian PR Visa Application to the national immigration agency in Canada.
During this second major stage of the QSWP procedure for immigration to Canada, the applicant will need to send the Canadian PR Visa Application, required documents (e.g., medical exam results, police certificates, and other supporting documentation) as well as the governmental fees to the federal immigration authorities.
Once that is done, the respective Canadian immigration authorities will review all of the applicant’s details and will send them a Confirmation of Permanent Residency (COPR) if the applicant and his or her family are approved for permanent residency in Canada. The applicant and his or her family members will also receive a Canadian PR Visa placed inside of their passport(s).
After being approved for Canadian immigration through the QSWP, the new permanent residents will move to Canada and begin their new lives living in Quebec!
As a Canadian permanent resident, an immigrant living in Quebec enjoys many benefits, such as being able to legally work in Quebec; receive free public healthcare; attend educational institutions in Canada; start a business; buy a home; own other property; open a bank account in Canada; get a driving license in Quebec; travel in and out of Canada; travel throughout the Canadian provinces and territories; sponsor certain eligible family members for a Canadian visa; and apply for citizenship in Canada after living in Quebec three years and meeting the other criteria.
In conclusion, Quebec is a great place to live and work in Canada, especially for French-speakers from around the world who have the education, job skills and other characteristics needed in this special Canadian province!
